What is the role of IFA? Independent Financial Advisers should provide independent financial advice on your pensions savings, investments and equity release on your property if you need some cash later in life. The is an argument that everyone needs an IPA. They can become your personal 'go to' stockbroker and general financial fixer. That is why I would suggest they you find one in or around Byker or at least within Northumberland. I would not recommend one miles away or never answered the phone. Another good way is personal recommendation. Ask a friend. Your IFA will be an important person in your life. You need to get them right!
How do IFA make money? Some IFAs are on commission and others charge. Many people believe that if they are to be truly 'independent' they should not have a financial relationship with the funds that they recommend their clients to invest - as their advice will be biased in favour of the funds which pay them the best commission. The way to avoid this is to ask them and then pay them a fee for their financial advice.
How do I find an IFA? Have a look below at the list of IFAs around Byker. They are reviewed. Personally I would create a shortlist and simply visit them personally. There is nothing like knowing your IFA. That is the advantage of having a local one

Once I decided it was time to sort my pensions out, I spoke to Paul Bain at Gale and Phillipson to help me create a retirement plan. I wanted to make sure I have enough retirement income for me but can also pass some money down to my children. Paul listened to me and explained all of the options that were open to me. He communicates with me regularly and has given me confidence about my future retirement

Northstar have and continue to be an extremely supportive backer. They were very approachable in the early stages, and continue to work with us in a way that many early-stage venture firms do not. They really know where they can add value, and have always been on hand to help (beyond just providing capital).

Flat was amazing. Couldn't fault it, furnished to a high standard and kitchen was SUPER modern and brand new - absolutely lovely. Repairs were done pretty much as soon as they were reported and always kept us up to date with what was happening. Down side was that I had to email them 5 times over the space of nearly 4 months to get my deposit back! Also, when I signed my contract I was told (with a witness) that as long as myself and the other house sharers told them we wanted to extend the contract with a couple of weeks then we could extend it for an additional 12 months. Unfortunately when I moved in a few weeks later I was told by the other house mates that the agency had already showed people around the property and let it out from when ours finished. Prem Lets DID offer us to extend the contracts in that property for an additional month and then would transfer us to a different house for the rest of our contracts, which we didn't want. All in all they're a decent agency but take too long in giving deposits back and didn't tell me I couldn't extend my contract, leaving it to the other housemates to tell me and me panicking trying to find somewhere else to live.
Had viewing with prem lets today and the agent Marie was exceptionally helpful, had all of the answers we needed to some complicated questions. Overall good standard properties, great agency so far 🙂

I have recently completed a year long placement with Adderstone Group. Working in a positive, forward-thinking environment allowed me to apply theory from my previous two years at university to ‘real-world’ projects and to develop my technical and professional skills. I was given the opportunity to work closely with a range of professionals on a variety of projects in the North East, direction and support were offered throughout. My placement year provided me with invaluable experience and I highly recommend a career at Adderstone Group
It was a pleasure to spend a great year working for Adderstone Group as a placement student. The team were great and supported me and the other placement students through our year in industry. I have learnt numerous skills which I will be able to apply to my final year studying and I would thoroughly recommend this company as a future employer.
